Wholostic with a W...
Isn't wholistic spelled HOLISTIC? Well...yes and no. Most people think holistic with an H when they hear this term in regards to the alternative medicinal approach of dealing with a person entirely instead of the symptoms. But both words exist actually and while both refer to dealing with clients and patients as complete and interrelated organism, they refer to different aspects of this idea or viewpoint. Holistic with an H is in regards to the inner aspects of the body. So anything you take internally or any alternative medicinal approach you are dealing with that deals with the internal, is referred to as holistic. This can include homeopathy, herbs, diets, and anything that deals with the organ systems and their disease or self care from an internal perspective or route. While massage does affect your circulation, lymphatic system, muscles and other soft tissues it is a topical or external tool to self care or repair and that falls under the umbrella of wholistic. Dealing with a client or patient from the perspective of a complete interrelated organism but from the external. This is another reason why prescribing, diagnosing and those things that fall under the scope of Doctors is beyond our scope along with their extensive education and training is far more reaching than our own. That being said this doesn't take away from the positive and restorative effects massage has on the body especially when your massage therapists is working with your primary care physician.
All that to say, "Yes. WHolistic with an W"
